SApsLearnerships (South African Police Service) and how to apply 👇


SAPS Learnership is a training programme that prepares you to become a police officer through the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP).

  • Duration: about 24 months

  • Includes:

    • Classroom training

    • Physical training

    • Practical police work

  • After completion: You may be appointed as a Police Constable (depending on performance and availability)


Requirements

To qualify, you generally need:

  • 🇿🇦 South African citizen

  • 🎓 Grade 12 (Matric)

  • 🎂 Age: 18–30 (sometimes up to 35)

  • 🚫 No criminal record

  • 💪 Physically & mentally fit

  • 🗣️ Able to speak English + another SA language

  • 👮 Willing to undergo background checks & training


How to Apply

Applications are now online only:

  1. Go to the official SAPS e-Recruitment portal

  2. Create an account

  3. Complete your profile

  4. Upload documents (ID, Matric certificate, etc.)

  5. Apply for the “Police Trainee” post

👉 Everything is done digitally now — no paper forms


Important Warning (Very Important!)

There are many scams about SAPS learnerships.

  • SAPS does NOT recruit via:

    • Facebook comments

    • WhatsApp links

    • “Inbox me” messages

  • Always apply only through official channels


Stipend / Salary

  • During training: monthly stipend (around R4,000–R5,000)

  • After completion: possible full-time salary as a constable


When Do Applications Open?

  • SAPS intakes are not always open all year

  • Usually announced officially on SAPS website or government portals

  • Big intakes often happen once per year


Tips to Improve Your Chances

  • Stay fit (there are physical tests)

  • Keep documents ready (certified copies)

  • Avoid criminal record issues

  • Apply early when it opens
